On Saturday, the film held up best in Maharashtra, where collections were down by just around 5 per cent from the opening day. That is a phenomenal hold, especially considering the opening day was boosted by a major national holiday, and it bodes extremely well for the film’s long-term run in the state. The Hindi circuits across North and Central India recorded relatively higher drops, although the holds remained strong even there. Delhi-NCR was down around 20 per cent from Friday, while Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh declined by approximately 25-30 per cent.
The higher drops in these markets can largely be attributed to the stronger holiday boost on the opening day, whereas Maharashtra has a naturally stronger audience base for the Drishyam franchise.
The film was already a BLOCKBUSTER from its opening day itself, given the huge start and positive audience reports. That combination always pointed towards a strong theatrical run, and Saturday’s excellent hold has further confirmed those expectations. The question now is not whether the film will emerge as a BLOCKBUSTER, but just how big a BLOCKBUSTER it will become. The weekday trend will provide the answer.
